Skincare Routine
The Correct Daily Skincare: The Art of Taking Care of Your Skin.

The Anglo-Saxon expression "skin care" represents the refined concept of daily skincare through the use of cosmetic products. This term has also gained recognition from the Accademia della Crusca and is the result of the combination of two English words: "skin," which means "pelle," and "care," which translates to "cura." This precious ritual involves several steps, in which products are applied layer by layer (known as "layering"), following a facial cleansing routine.

Skincare begins with a fundamental gesture, the "double cleansing," a technique originating from the Far East and passed down by geishas, who used this method to remove traditional white makeup from the face. This precious secret of Oriental beauty requires the use of appropriate products, respectful of the skin's microbiota and hydrolipidic film.

A proper skincare routine requires, on average, only 15 minutes, divided into steps executed precisely :

1. Gently apply a few drops of oily makeup remover to the face. To begin, delicately massage a few drops of makeup remover oil that, by affinity, will dissolve all impurities present on the face. This initial cleansing is crucial to remove any traces of makeup and other impurities. You can choose between an oily balm specific for skincare, a cleansing butter, a micellar oil, a fatty-based cleansing milk, or a simple makeup remover oil.

2. Massage the oily makeup remover and gently remove it using a sponge. The makeup remover oil should be massaged and then gently removed with circular movements, using a damp sponge, a microfiber makeup removal cloth, a makeup removal glove, or even a common cotton pad. If you prefer a natural solution, I recommend using a vegetable makeup removal cloth, perhaps made of bamboo cane, which also offers a very gentle micro-exfoliation.

3. Complete the cleansing with a foaming cleanser (double cleansing). Once the makeup remover is removed, complete the cleansing with a foaming product, which acts by contrast to remove residues thanks to the action of gentle surfactants. This step allows the removal of water-soluble impurities, such as sweat and dead cells. Alternatively, you can opt for the use of micellar water.

4. Use a scrub as an exfoliant. After rinsing your face with lukewarm water, you can apply a scrub that gently helps the skin exfoliate. Let the scrub sit for a few minutes and then remove it with cold water. Keep in mind that this step should be done no more than once a week to avoid damaging the hydrolipidic film and skin microbiota. You can choose a scrub with plant-based microgranules (mechanical exfoliation), enzymes from red fruits (enzymatic peeling), or hydroxy acids (chemical peeling).

5. Apply a gentle mask. Masks, also an important part of the beauty routine, should not be used more than twice a week to avoid overloading the skin. Masks provide the skin with a concentrate of natural active ingredients, capable of moisturizing, nourishing, soothing, firming, purifying, depigmenting, or elasticizing depending on the skin type and specific needs. The charcoal black mask, known as the "black mask," can be particularly useful for people with blackheads (open comedones). You can opt for face masks in the form of rinse-off creams, sheet masks, or peel-off masks, which are removed by peeling.

6. Use a water-based toner. Toner, often underestimated, is an aqueous solution that completes the daily cleansing of the face and restores the skin's physiological pH. A good toner helps to reacidify the skin's pH, sometimes altered by tap water, especially when it is particularly hard. An excellent alternative to facial toner is rose water, with multiple beneficial properties.

7. Apply a Korean face essence. Before moving on to serum, you can apply a Korean essence that has illuminating properties. Face essences, very popular in Korean cosmetics, have a powerful repairing and antioxidant action, giving the face greater luminosity.

8. Use a high-quality serum. Serum is the secret to preventing signs of aging and evening out skin tone. It is a concentrate of active ingredients (including caffeine, polyphenols, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, tocotrienols, niacinamide) and has a fluid texture that absorbs quickly. To be used before moisturizer, the serum enhances the effect of the cream itself, working in perfect synergy.

9. Complete the treatment with an eye contour, a lip balm, and a facial moisturizer. To complete your skincare, make sure to use a good eye contour and a natural lip balm, preferably free of parabens and other sensitizing substances. If you are pregnant, remember to opt for gentle and safe cosmetics during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In addition to facial skincare, remember that there are specific products for body skin (body care), hair (hair care), and nails (nail care), each with formulations suitable for different needs. Don't forget that men have also adopted these beauty secrets, paying more and more attention to facial and body skin care, with the emergence of men's skincare. For those with particularly sensitive or reactive skin or who suffer from specific skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, psoriasis, or eczema, it is essential to consult with a dermatologist to customize their skincare during a specialist visit.

10. In the morning, don't forget sunscreen. In the morning beauty routine, it is essential to add sunscreen as an additional step. You can choose to apply a cream with a high protection factor or a BB cream (Blemish Balm), which combines the properties of foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen in one product. The skincare routine is a personalized art that can vary based on skin type (such as seborrheic, xerotic, mixed, discromic skin), time of day, and season.

With these precious daily gestures, your daily skincare will transform into an authentic beauty ritual, nourishing and protecting your skin, revealing your true natural beauty.
